LG reviews deparmental progress, issues slew of instructions

LEH: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) on Friday issued a number of instructions related to public welfare, including holding of all central government examination in the union territory, distribution of zero-carbon emission tents to reduce the mortality rate of kids of pashmina goats in Changthang in the winter, besides meeting the September deadline for providing functional household tap connections (FHTCs) in the region.

He also took stock of the arrangements being made for the visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Ladakh, and the early release of the pending posts of the SSC Selection Post Ladakh 2022.

He passed these instructions while chairing a meeting with the Departmental Secretaries at Raj Niwas to review the progress of their respective departments and to discuss various ongoing issues, his second in the week.

The LG discussed various issues in the meeting, viz. the appeal made by casual labourers and daily wagers for the implementation of a regularisation policy to address their grievances; the establishment of a Sainik School in Ladakh at the earliest; the need to establish more examination centres in Ladakh so that the aspiring candidates from Ladakh don’t have to go outside Ladakh to appear in various recruitment and entrance examinations; the need to set up Anti-Drug squads in schools and colleges to tackle the drug menace in Ladakh; the arrangements being made for the visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Ladakh; the proposal to send around 30 NCC cadets from Ladakh to naval establishments; the selection of boys and girls from Ladakh who would visit the Raj Bhawans of all the states and union territories to celebrate the UT Ladakh Foundation Day on a grand scale; the rationalisation of boundaries of Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Park at the earliest and the need to provide justice to the victim and family members in the rape and attempted murder case of the minor; the early release of the pending posts of the SSC Selection Post Ladakh 2022, etc.

Post detailed discussion on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Ladakh, LG highlighted the need to hold a meeting with the Councillors and concerned stakeholders and officials to ensure that the JJM works are on track and 100% saturation of providing functional household tap connections (FHTCs) is achieved by the end of September 2023.

He also instructed the concerned officials to ensure the collection of Har Ghar Jal certification from the village head/Gram Panchayat of areas where all the households, schools, Anganwadi and public institutions have functional tap connections.

LG instructed the concerned officials to ensure that all the centre government entrance and recruitment exams are held in Ladakh.

He also instructed that infrastructure must be raised to hold online examinations in Ladakh.

He further instructed the concerned officials to distribute zero-carbon emission tents by mid-September to reduce the mortality rate of kids of pashmina goats in Changthang in the winter.

Mishra also instructed to provide feed and fodder to the mother goat to meet their nutrition needs.

Earlier, the Departmental Secretaries informed LG about the progress of ongoing project works in their respective departments.

Advisor to LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Principal Secretary, Sanjeev Khirwar; ADGP Ladakh Police, DS Jamwal; Commissioner Secretary, AK Sahu; Commissioner Secretary, Padma Angmo; Secretary, Mehboob Ali Khan; Secretary, Amit Sharma, and Secretary, Yetindra Maralkar, IAS were present in the meeting.
