Leh: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) hosted a farewell party to bid adieu to the outgoing Divisional Commissioner Saugat Biswas, at Raj Niwas on Friday.
Wishing the best to Saugat for his next assignment, LG commended him for his work ethics, especially during the initial phase of the formation of Ladakh as a separate division of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and later as a union territory after the bifurcation of J&K.
The LG stated that the first major issue faced by him on joining as the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh was the urgent need of evacuating and airlifting of citizens of Ladakh stranded at different places such as Delhi, Chandigarh and Jammu.
He also stated that he was impressed with the work undertaken by Saugat which helped in resolving the issue of airlifting of the stranded passengers.
The LG stated that the experience gained by Saugat as the Divisional Commissioner and the initiatives taken by him to build Ladakh from scratch after its formation as a union territory would help him immensely in his future assignments.
Referring to the challenges faced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Covid pandemic period, he also commended Saugat for tackling the Covid-19 situation in Ladakh efficiently and effectively.
Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, stated that Ladakh is fortunate to have dedicated and motivated officers like Saugat. He also highlighted the contributions made by Saugat when Ladakh was declared a new UT.
Advisor to LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal shared his experience of working with Saugat when he was the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu and later in the UT Administration. He praised Saugat’s commitment and passion towards work and wished him the best for his next assignment.
Earlier, Secretary to LG, Ravinder Kumar informed LG that Saugat, the 2006-batch IAS officer, served Ladakh for around four and a half years- first as the Divisional Commissioner and then as a Commissioner Secretary. He also highlighted the various developments that took place during Saugat’s tenure as the Commissioner Secretary of different departments.
Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Advisor to LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Executive Councillor, Stanzin Chosphel; Departmental Secretaries and ADGP Ladakh Police, SDS Jamwal were present during the farewell party.
In a separate event, Chairman and CEC of LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson bids farewell to Commissioner Secretary Ladakh, Suagat Biswas and Joint Director Industries Ladakh, Lakshya Singhal today, as they completed their tenure of service in Ladakh.
CEC Gyalson expressed his gratitude and appreciation for their valuable contributions to the overall development of Ladakh.
Executive Councillors and Councillors of LAHDC Leh also extended their best wishes to Biswas and Lakshya as they embark on new chapters in their professional careers.
