LEH: Looking to improve its dismal performance in the past, the union territory of Ladakh is gearing up to ensure better results in the Swachh Survekshan 2023.
In the Swachh Survekshan 2022, Ladakh was able to secure 24th position among the 33 states and union territories of the country, with a score of 518.69 out of 1000.
Both its districts had also performed below average with Leh positioned at 490 rank with a score of 559.17 and Kargil at 559 rank with a score of 478.21, out of over 700 district covered in the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2022 survey.
However, this year, Ladakh is eager to improve its performance and in this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sanjeev Khirwar Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Ladakh, to review progress on field level preparations for Swachh Survekshan 2023.
At the outset, the representative from Directorate of Urban Local Bodies with their Project Management Unit apprised the Principal Secretary the marking criteria that will be followed during the field assessments. All parameters which will be evaluated by the field team were discussed and present status of all was enquired by the Principal Secretary.
It was discussed in the meeting that efforts on public awareness need to be intensified by both Municipal Committee of Leh and Kargil to ensure thorough readiness for field assessments.
To ensure citizen feedback branding and promotion of good practices are needed to be carried out through social media and radio-based advertisements. Both municipal committees are required to develop action plans for ensuring impactful IEC activities in all wards of the town in coordination with Council Members and Ward Members.
The Principal Secretary instructed both Municipal Committees to ensure that no visible garbage is present in water bodies and storm water drains. It was also discussed that signages and banners create a positive impact and hence need to be assessed and erected at all viable locations so that citizens as well as tourists develop a sense of pride and responsibility towards the efforts of the city.
The meeting was also attended by Executive Officer, Leh and Kargil; Executive Engineer Igoo Phey Division, PHE Department; Anjana Madhavan, Team Leader, PMU, DULB; Harsh Jadhav, Infrastructure Expert, PMU, DULB; Fariha Yousuf, SMMU, NULM Ladakh, DULB; Tsering Dolker, Civil Engineer, PMU, DULB and other concerned officials.
