LG Mishra inaugurates Madras Regimental Corner, to attend AILSA’s mega meet today

LEH: Lieutenant Governor Brigadier B D Mishra has inaugurated the Madras Regimental Corner of the 17th Battalion of the Madras Regiment (Cochin) in Jammu, even as he will attend the two-days All India Legal Services Authorities Meet being hosted by the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Friday at Srinagar.

The Lieutenant Governor has been camping in Jammu and Kashmir this week, where he visited the Kargil Boys Hostel at Channi Rama on Tuesday, and held an interaction with the students of Kargil studying in Jammu.

On Wednesday, he attended the foundation stone ceremony for the new High Court complex of J&K and Ladakh at Raika by Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India.

The LG also inaugurated the Madras Regimental Corner instituted by the 17th Battalion of the Madras Regiment in Jammu.

“The regimental corner will instill a sense of pride & serve as a source of inspiration to youth of the area,” the LG said on the occasion.

The event was filled with the calls of the motto of the Madras Regiment, ‘Swadharme Nidhanam Shreyaha’ which translates to “It is glory to die doing one’s duty”.

Originating about 300 years ago in the year 1750, Madras Regiment is the oldest regiment in the Indian Army. This brave platoon of soldiers took part in operations with both the British Indian Army and post-independence Indian Army and brought laurels to the regiment and country, it may be mentioned.

The Lieutenant Governor has moved to Srinagar where he will attend the two-days All India Legal Services Authorities Meet being hosted by the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Friday.

This significant meeting, will be inaugurated by Chief Justice of India in the presence of Union Law Minister along with Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha.

As many as 20 Supreme Court Judges, Chief Justices of all the High Courts of India, will participate in the meeting, which will deliberate on the progress made in the Legal Services Sector till date and chalk out future strategy.

Meanwhile, the LG has congratulated the students of Ladakh participating in the ongoing Fit India Quiz.

“I heartily congratulate the 66 schools of Ladakh which have participated in the Fit India Quiz. I am also happy to extend my best wishes to the 8 schools which made it to the state round,” said the LG in a video message.

The Fit India Quiz, which is currently running in its second edition, is India’s biggest quiz on sports and fitness, with a total prize money of Rs 3.25 crore being offered to schools and students. The State rounds are being streamed on the YouTube handle of Fit India while the State finals are also set to go on air from Doordarshan.
