LEH: In its relentless pursuit to combat the scourge of drug abuse in society, the District Police Leh achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting two local individuals involved in drug peddling and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
While conducting routine patrolling in and around Leh market, a police party from Police Station Leh apprehended a suspicious person carrying a carry bag, a police spokesperson said.
Upon being asked to stop for checking, the person exhibited suspicious behaviour following which the alert police party overpowered the individual and on checking the carry bag, the police party recovered charas weighing around 135 grams from Abdul Majid, son of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Chute-Rantak Leh who runs a meat shop at Nowshera market Leh.
In this connection case, FIR No 96/2023 U/S 8/20/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Leh.
Further investigation into the case revealed links of other person involvement surfaced leading to the arrest of another peddler namely Thinles Gyatso son of Sonam Angchuk, a resident of Digger Nubra and recovered approximately 206 grams Charas from his rental room near Zangsti. He operates a bike rental shop at Zangsti in Leh.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that these individuals sell drugs at exorbitant prices among local youths and tourists.
