LEH: Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) inaugurated Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), that will ensure an effective response to disaster situations in the Union Territory.
The administration in the month of May this year had informed that the Emergency Operation Centre was in the making, even as the administration has decided to strengthen the number of doctors to deal with the medical emergencies, besides opening up new oxygen parlours in high-altitude areas, with the onset of the tourist season.
The Emergency Operation Centre conceived and executed by Department of Disaster, Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction has come up at Tukcha, Leh, with its state of the art building housing an office, incident commander room, operations room, training hall, conference hall, power backup and other advanced facilities.
On the occasion, Saugat Biswas, Divisional Commissioner Ladakh and Commissioner Secretary for Disaster Management informed the LG about the project and its purpose of usage.
The LG expressed appreciation to the Divisional Commissioner and his team of disaster management department for their contributions to setup the operation centre.
Mishra focused on the proper use of equipment purchased by the department and directed the adequate use of equipment to mitigate disasters, besides the need of training to the volunteers which will be useful in disaster management.
He also directed the department to conduct mock drills for the volunteers and various line departments and instructed the department to prepare the volunteers and staff for the disaster.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC of LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson congratulated the department of disaster management for completion of the operation centre in record time. He said that the operation centre will benefit the people of Ladakh in terms of getting various information that cause disasters.
The CEC suggested ways for institutionalising the Aapda Mitra volunteers and training for the volunteers from UTDRF to tackle the disaster.
The LG distributed medical rescue equipment to the health care centres of Ladakh which were being distributed by the Disaster Management department.
Later, the LG inspected the stalls of equipment used in disaster management.
Dorjey Angchuk, Nodal Officer LDMA presented presentations on the achievements and action plan of the department.
