NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra on Thursday met Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya M Scindia and discussed with them the enhancement of air services in the union territory of Ladakh, besides the other issues.
Mishra also discussed in detail the possibilities of enhancing the air services in Ladakh to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Hawai Chappal Wala Bhi Hawai Jahaz Me’.
The LG also apprised and asked for necessary measures to be initiated to address the exorbitant rates charged by the private airlines plying in Ladakh
He also held an elaborative discussion on the enhancement of air services in Kargil district.
While there was no official release from Raj Niwas on the meeting, Scindia, the Union Minister for Civil Aviation & Steel, tweeted a picture of the duo.
“Today, had a cordial meeting with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Brigadier Dr B D Mishra (retd). During the meeting, the possibilities of aviation in the region were discussed in detail and positively,” he wrote on the micro-blogging site.
It may be mentioned that Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra had last month said that he would personally take up important issues related to the air services in the union territory with the union Minister for Civil Aviation.
The LG recently discussed a number of issues including extension of airfield for civil operations with availability of land for same, the operation of C-130 J and the potential increase in the frequency of the C-17 IAF aircraft of the Indian Air Force for civilian purposes, with Commander-in-chief of Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command, Air Marshall Pankaj M Sinha who had called on the LG at Raj Niwas here.
Meanwhile, Raj Niwas informed that Chairperson and CEC of LAHDC Leh Tashi Gyalson met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra in Leh.
Gyalson highlighted the grievances of the Daily Rated Workers engaged in various departments of Ladakh and requested the HLG for intervention in addressing their issues.
Gyalson made a special mention of the case regarding inclusion of daily waged PHE linemen into the ‘Skilled Category’ stating that they have gained on-job experience during the course of their service and added that the PDD linemen are receiving the benefits of the Skilled Category owing to the same criteria.
LG Mishra assured to examine the case for necessary action in consultation with the concerned department, an official spokesperson said.
