LEH: Asserting that yoga brings harmony between the body and the mind, Dr Kiran Bedi, the first Woman IPS Officer of the country said that Ladakh can become the World’s Capital of meditation and Yoga.
She was speaking at a symposium on ‘Yoga for Harmony’ organized by Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre Leh in collaboration with LAHDC Leh, UT Administration & Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush, government of India at Acharya Nagarjuna Auditorium CIBS Choglamsar, as part of the week-long UN 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations.
Besides Bedi, former Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry, CEC of LAHDC Leh Tashi Gyalson, Dr D R Karthikeyan, Former CBI Director, Prof S K Mehta, Vice-Chancellor of Ladakh University, Dr Padma Gurmet, Director, National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR), Ven Bhikkhu Saghasena, President and Founder MIMC, Dr Jigmet Deachen, Assistant Professor Ladakh University, Phramaha Bhikhu Dhammaratna from Thailand, Dr Bhikkhu Indavansa from Maharashtra, students and teachers were also present.
Bedi praised Prime Minister Narendra for giving Yoga to the world and added that the tremendous efforts to yoga by PM Modi has emboldened to make Yoga a global healthcare movement.
She also addressed the gathering regarding the significance of Yoga and meditation’ importance and stated that yoga is a spiritual discipline as it is based on the subtle science that aims to bring about harmony between the body and the mind.
“Ladakh can become the World’s Capital of Meditation and Yoga,” she said and encouraged everyone to practice Yoga and meditation.
Addressing the gathering, CEC Tashi Gyalson added: “Our endeavour through these International Days of Yoga is to sustain a ripple effect around the rich heritage of Yoga.”
“Yoga has been proven to act as an elixir to realize a healthy mind and body. Guided by the vision of Prime Minister Modi, we remain steadfast towards building a healthier nation with the help of our rich traditional medicinal system including Yoga,” he said.
The CEC also spoke about Hill Council’s contributions to making Ladakh more sustainable and carbon neutral. He also spoke about the various plans of LAHDC Leh which includes the upcoming “Vibrant Ladakh, Highest Altitude Sustainable Show on Land in Changthang region which will be aligned with India’s G20 celebration theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’; Commercial app-based Electric Vehicle (EV) scheme under LAHDC Leh’s subsidized Scheme.
Similarly, various other dignitaries including Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena; Dr. D.R. Karthikeyan; Prof. S.K.Mehta, VC Ladakh University; Dr. Padma Gyurmet; Tashi Dolker; Amar Yoga Instructor, MIMC; Vikrant Mahajan; Dr. Jigmet Deachen, Assistant Professor Ladakh University also spoke on the occasion.
A vibrant cultural performance was also showcased by artists.
