LEH: With growing numbers of tourists and vehicles in the region, the Ladakh administration is set to build eco-friendly and sustainable modern parking facilities in both Leh and Kargil districts.

The Urban Development department and Tourism department is planning to build well planned and integrated parking facilities to decongest the cities of Leh and Kargil so as to provide a planned traffic management and parking plan, which will enhance the experience of the inhabitants of Ladakh along with visitors and tourists.

In this regard, Secretary, Tourism department Ladakh, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan chaired a meeting at the Protocol office meeting hall, Leh which discussed the improvement to urban infrastructure in terms of developing integrated parking facilities for commercial vehicles in particular and private vehicles in general.

“This will be an effort to promote sustainable & responsible tourism in both Leh & Kargil. The Urban Development department in consultation with the Tourism department will build eco-friendly and sustainable modern parking facilities in Leh and Kargil, which will cater to the growing numbers of Taxis, Tempos, Pick up vehicles, Buses and other automobiles,” the meeting deliberated.

It was informed that these parking facilities will have integrated terminal buildings which will be disabled friendly with local architecture housing essential amenities such as lounge area, public convenience, office space, shopping arena, food stall, call centres, automated entry & exit systems, heating system, waste management system, firefighting, EV charging points and electronic security system etc.

Khan stated that the dedicated terminals will facilitate decongestion of the cities, improve the city landscape and ensure smoother operations for commercial and private vehicles.

Further, he said that building energy-efficient infrastructure aligns with the vision of achieving a carbon neutral Ladakh.

The meeting was attended by Director (Tourism), Kunzes Angmo; Director (HUDD), Dr. Zahida Bano;  ADC, Leh, Sonam Chosjor; SP (Traffic), Leh, Mujeeb ur Rehman; Executive Officer, MC Leh, Stanzin Rabgais; Presidents/office bearers of various transport Unions of Leh and Consultants of the projects.
