LEH: Asserting that Ladakh has immense scope in energy efficiency, Secretary, Power, Ladakh Ravinder Kumar has called for reducing carbon emissions and adopting measures to be energy efficient.
The Secretary also said that an action plan will be put in public domain to seek suggestions and feedback.
The Secretary was speaking at the validation workshop on the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP) for Union Territory of Ladakh organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, GoI and Power Development Department (PDD), Ladakh with the support of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).
In his inaugural address, Kumar said that Ladakh has immense scope in energy efficiency as passive solar technology can be used in different sectors be it agriculture, housing and animal husbandry, etc.
The secretary said that the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan would majorly highlight on reduction of carbon emissions and measures to be energy efficient.
The Secretary stressed the need for action plan to put in public domain to seek suggestions and feedback and expressed gratitude to the departments for their support and coordination in the development of the action plan.
Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent Engineer, PDD Leh, Tundup Spalzang stressed that efficient use of energy is needed to tackle the adverse effect of the rising global warming.
Kishan Khatri (Project Manager, ASSOCHAM) gave a detailed presentation on the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan for UT Ladakh. He highlighted the possibility of energy efficiency in various sectors like Transport, Buildings and Industries.
He highlighted the detailed draft of action plan viz, electric vehicle policy, ethanol blending program, promotion of standard and labelling program of tyres for fuel efficiency in vehicles, effective implementation of Ladakh- ECBC, Ladakh-ENS and geothermal heating in domestic and commercial buildings, replacement program for inefficient appliances, BEE Star rating and Shunya Rating of buildings, Energy Efficiency in MSMEs and behavioural change towards energy efficiency.
Later, the participants and stakeholders given a positive feedback on the action plan for State Energy Efficiency Action Plan for UT Ladakh.
Directors, Chief Engineers, Superintendent Engineers, Executive Engineers of various executive agency, district officers, representatives from various departments besides representatives of ASSOCHAM attended the validation workshop.
