Jammu Univ to fill up 178 posts to meet faculty crisis

JAMMU: To overcome an alleged shortage of faculty, the University of Jammu is set to fill up 178 posts in various departments in the institution and its prominent campuses across the region.

Administrative sources in the Jammu University, one of the prestigious higher institutions, said that 178 posts will be filled up very soon for which the process including online applications, is to be set into motion from June 14.

“The filling up of the application process will start from June 14 and will continue till July 10,” sources stated.

They revealed that as many as 178 posts of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor will be filled up to meet the faculty crisis in the Jammu University, Directorate of Distance Education and three of its campuses.

Further sharing the details, sources said that 178 posts will be filled up in the University and eight posts will be filled in Bhaderwah, Kathua and Poonch campuses.

They said that four posts will be filled in the Department of Biotechnology, as many in the Department of Botany, two in the Department of Buddhist Studies, four in the History and Culture Center of Jammu-Kashmir Ladakh Region, five in the Department of Chemical Sciences, five in the Department of Commerce, and four in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Similarly, sources said that three posts will be filled up in Economics Department, three in Education Department, one in Electronics Department, three in English Department, two in Environment Department, two in Geography Department, seven in Geology Department, five in Hindi Department, six in History Department, six in IMFA Institute seven in the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, six in the Department of Law, one in the Department of Library and Information Science, seven in the Department of Mathematics, eight in the Department of Physics, eight in the Department of Political Science will be filled.

Sources also said that four posts will be filled in Psychology Department, seven in Philosophy Department, three in Punjabi Department, three in Remote Sensing and GIA Department, five in Sanskrit Department, three in Sociology Department, one in Statistics Department.

Similarly, one post will be filled in the Economics Department, one in Urdu Department, one in Education Department and two in Law Department of the Directorate of Distance Education while three posts will be filled in the Hindi department, two in the Dogri department and seven in Dhanwantri library.

“The appointments will meet the shortage of faculty in different institutions affiliated with the University of Jammu,” sources added.

They further said, “some of the departments, not only in the University of Jammu but its associated campuses were facing the faculty shortage for a long time due to which, students interested in pursuing higher studies in the subjects of their choice, were not opting for it.”

But, they said that with filling up of these posts, the faculty shortage will be met and it will also help several aspirants to fulfil their dream of studying the subject of their choice.
