Jammu: Seeking cooperation from the people of Jammu, the district police has generated a data back of more than 10,000 closed circuit cameras installed in every household that would help ‘khakhi’ to curb crime and keep watch on anti-social and anti-national activities.
The Jammu Police, as per sources, have banked upon over 10,000 CCTVs installed in various households across the district with an aim to monitor crime and other social evils besides anti-national activities.
“This is absolutely a unique step taken by the Jammu Police as the organisation has prepared a data bank by collecting information of 10295 CCTV cameras installed in various households all over the district,” sources said.
The data bank, as per sources, has information related to the CCTVs installed in streets, lanes, mohallas besides residential and business complexes, adding, “the local populace has been taken into confidence by the Jammu Police for this noble initiative.”
Incidents like terror activities, theft, snatching, robbery, murder or any other criminal activity, caught on cameras, will help ‘khakhi’ not only to crack the cases but also reach the criminals vis-à-vis noose can also be tightened against such elements.
“Jammu Police has gathered a data bank of 10295 CCTV cameras from eight police sub-divisions of the district,” adding, sources said that data of 1201 cameras has been collected from sub division Jammu East, 1795 from Jammu West, 1527 from Jammu North, 2363 from Jammu South, Akhnoor 189, Domana 250, R S Pura 2774 and 196 cameras from Nagrota Sub Division.
“The history of one-month old cases like hit and run, theft, snatching is being investigated with the help of these CCTV footages,” they added.
“These cameras have turned out to be a ‘third eye’ helping the department to gather data from the devices,” said police.
Notably, under the Smart City Project, a proposal to install 700 CCTV cameras across is already getting wings, which are jointly being installed by the Municipal Corporation and the Traffic Police.
“A control room has also been set up to monitor the activities in these cameras and 100 cameras have already been installed in the first phase in the most sensitive parts of Jammu city,” said an official.
