LEH: Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) B D Mishra (Retd) on Thursday directed his administration for resolve the Revenue Settlement issues of Leh Town at the earliest.
Mishra passed these directions while chairing a meeting to discuss the Mohallah Goba and Revenue Settlement issues at Raj Niwas.
Tsering Namgyal, Councillor, Lower Leh, who was also present in the meeting informed the LG that the Goba is the traditional representative of the mohallahs in Ladakh and also apprised him of various revenue settlement issues of Leh town.
He also informed about the role played by Goba in resolving various issues and also for the welfare of the people of Ladakh. He emphasised the need to recognise Gobas in the government and administration set-up.
The LG stated that Gobas, who are the traditional representatives of the mohallahs, are the representatives of the grassroots governance working for the welfare of the people of Ladakh.
Mishra instructed the concerned officials and departments to look into the matter raised by Lower Leh Councillor legally.
“Complete the settlement of shops and residential houses in Leh Town at the earliest,” he instructed the administration.
Principal Secretary, Revenue, Dr Pawan Kotwal informed that the revenue settlement issues should be settled in a constitutional framework.
He assured to conduct a proper exercise in this regard at the earliest.
LG asked the Gobas to play an active role in keeping Leh town neat and clean, encourage youth to come up with their own start-ups and business ventures and participate in overcoming the problem of dog menace.
Gobas of various Mohallahs of Leh town; Director, Housing and Urban Development, Dr Zahida Banoo and ACR Leh, Shabir Hussain were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, a delegation from Command Area Development (CAD) called on the LG at Raj Niwas and raised several issues, viz. merger of the Command Area Development Department with Rural Department, posting of technical staff and delegating financial power to Deputy Director CAD, etc.
The LG issued directions to Commissioner Secretary, RDD to look for viable solutions in consultation with Secretary, Agriculture Department.
Principal Secretary, Revenue, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS and Commissioner Secretary, RDD, Saugat Biswas, IAS were also present in the meeting.
