KARGIL: Asserting that it was the collective responsibility of the people and officials to make Jal Jeevan Mission scheme successful in Kargil, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday exhorted for meeting the scheme’s deadline of July 2023.

The CEC made these remarks while chairing a meeting at Conference Hall Kargil to review the pace of works and achievements under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the district.

Executive Councilor Works, Mubarak Shah Naqvi, EC Tourism, RD and Zanskar Affairs, Er Phunsok Tashi, EC Social Welfare, Syed Mehdi Fazily, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Superintending Engineering PHE, Councillors of LAHDC Kargil, BDC Chairpersons of various Blocks, PO Wages MGNREGA/Assistant Commissioner Development Kargil, Chief Planning Officer Kargil, Exen PHE, AEEs and concerned officers attended the meeting.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion and deliberations were followed regarding the various aspects of development and achievement under the JJM.

During the meeting, the concerned officers of PHE Kargil including Superintending Engineering, Exen and AEEs of PHE Department presented presentations regarding the progress of works under JJM at District and Block level.

Through the presentation, the CEC was informed about District and Block wise status of required Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), Har Ghar Jal certification, financial progress, FHTC tagged status, skill development program, IEC activities and various other important achievements related to JJM.

The presentations were followed by grievances and queries by the concerned Councilors and PRI members during which suggestions were sought by the concerned public representatives for the successful execution of JJM in their respective blocks and constituencies.

During the meeting, deliberation was done on the feasibility of water sources, inclusion of soakage pits, additional DPRs, submersible pumps wherever required, medium of water availability, water quality, round-the-year water supply and other issues.

The CEC said the meeting was aimed to understand the situation at the ground level and to make an understanding between public representatives and officers of the concerned department to achieve the deadline within its stipulated timeline which is July 2023.

Khan said it is a collective responsibility to make the scheme successful in the district and in this regard existing DPRs and Additional DPRs should be executed.

The CEC also sought active participation of public representatives and PRI members in resolution of conflicts and mediate between the public and the concerned department.

He asked the concerned Councilors under the leadership of Executive Councilors to visit the locations of the work with the concerned department to understand the nature and status of the work and give feedback to LAHDC and District Administration.

Khan directed that institutions under the scheme should be expedited at the earliest and executing agencies and contractors should be made accountable to deliver their works without hindrance and delay.

Chairman District JJM Committee and Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve said JJM is a visionary and expensive scheme.

With regard to the district, he said 4 lakh per connection has been invested in the district therefore public support is very essential for the success of the scheme.

Santosh informed that the district team is working and the improvement is visible besides that weekly meetings are held regarding the progress of JJM in Kargil.

The DC also called for the involvement of public and their representatives and committed that the scheme will make drinking water available to the residents round the year.
