Jammu: Following the guidelines of the Central government to treat the manually issued pollution checking certificate as invalid, the Regional Transport Office, Jammu has directed for online issuance of the document and the decision will be executed on ground from June 1, 2023.
Official sources in the RTO said that only online issued certificates that are registered on ‘Vahan’ Portal will be treated as valid and fit for the vehicle.
“From June 1 onwards, the concerned agencies/departments will start checking the pollution certificate documents and those found not possessing the online certificate, will be penalized under relevant sections of Motor Vehicles Act,” they added.
They stated that the Regional Road Transport Officer has directed all the Assistant Regional Transport Officers and other concerned officers that from June 1, the pollution test center issuing the certificate through offline mode will be treated an invalid.
“As per the earlier decisions, it is mandatory for all the pollution checking centers in Jammu and Kashmir to integrate with ‘Vahan’ portal for which necessary guidelines are already issued,” sources said and added that the concerned people have been given enough time to complete the necessary formalities and registered themselves with the ‘vahan’ portal.
“We have noticed that several pollution checking outlets affiliated with the RTO have registered themselves on the portal and Transport Officers, Assistant Regional Transport Officers are instructed to make sure that the pollution control certificate be issued by these centers only through online mode,” they said.
“The most important exercise in this format is that the pollution control certificate issued by the checking centres, have to be uploaded on ‘vahan’ portal before issued to the vehicle owner as it is mandatory,” said an official adding that without uploading the certificate on the portal, it will not be treated as valid despite issued through online mode.
