KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan on Wednesday directed for stopping the open garbage dumping at Goratothang, even as he announced that a new segregation shed will be coming up in Pashkum area.
Also expressing serious concern over the cleanliness and sanitation works in Kurbathang area, the CEC directed the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department to ensure regular garbage collection in Kurbathang area on priority and asked for collection and segregation at Ringmospang waste shed.
The CEC issued these and several other directions while chairing a review meeting with the concerned departments and public representatives to assess the cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in Kargil district, as directed by the Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier B D Mishra.
Executive Councilor RD, Tourism and Zanskar Affairs, LAHDC, Kargil, Er Phunsok Tashi, EC Health Mohsin Ali, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Director Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RD&PRD), Ladakh Tahir Hussain, Director Urban Local Bodies, Zahida Banoo, ACR Kargil, A G Zargar, ACD Kargil Ghulam Mohammad, Councilors of Pashkum, Baroo, Poyen and Town Constituencies in LAHDC Kacho Mohd Feroz, Sheikh Mehdi, Mohammad Amin, Haji Abbas, DySP Manzoor Ahmad, SDMs of Shakar Chiktan, Sankoo, AD Information/DPO Kargil, Executive Officer MC, Tehsil Drass, representatives of VIJAYAK and Police Department besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.
Underlining agenda of the meeting, the CEC said on the suggestions of LG Ladakh, sanitation and cleanliness scenario needs to be assessed in Kargil and Drass.
“After discussion with concerned stakeholders and departments, concrete decisions will be drafted,” the CEC said.
Khan said the objective is to execute the plan in coordination with concerned stakeholders related to cleanliness drive, sanitation, waste management and awareness to general public adding that proper cleanliness and sanitation of Kargil district needs to be done meticulously.
The CEC expressed concern over the cleanliness and sanitation works in Kurbathang area and reflected that concrete decisions need to be drafted to manage garbage and ensure sanitation in the respective area on priority. He directed the RD&PRD to ensure regular garbage collection in Kurbathang area on priority.
Regarding collection and segregation of garbage at Kurbathang, the CEC directed to do collection and segregation at Ringmospang waste shed.
He also directed that the street vendors, timber and grass sellers on Kurbathang road from Iqbal Bridge to Council Secretariat should be immediately removed.
The CEC further directed VIJAYAK to assign 3-4 labourers to clean the road peripheries from Iqbal Bridge to Convoy Ground on every alternate day.
It was also decided to make a segregation shed in Pashkum area for which Rs 10 lakh will be provided by Councilor Pashkum and rest of the amount will be paid by CEC and DC Kargil from Untied fund. Further, he directed the concerned officer to do the necessary follow-up on the decision.
The CEC directed SDM Drass to stop the open garbage dumping at Goratothang and clear the legacy waste.
Regarding the recruitment rules for the advertisement of posts under the Municipal Committee, the CEC said the matter will be taken up with UT Administration. Further, regarding cleanliness drive, a separate meeting will be held with the concerned stakeholders and the civil society.
Meanwhile, DC Kargil announced that Rs 5 lakh will be provided for the procurement of dustbins and directed to prioritize distribution on the basis of requirement in concerned areas.
During the meeting, Director RD&PRD briefed about activities related to hygiene and cleanliness in Kargil and Drass. The Executive Officer MC also briefed about the activities of Municipal Committee Kargil.
