Kargil: The Srinagar-Kargil road remained closed for the 9th consecutive day on Tuesday following snowfall and snow avalanches along the Zojila Pass, even as the authorities said that the traffic movement would be restricted on Wednesday as well.
“In view of snow accumulation, rock slides and avalanches at multiple places on Sonamarg-Kargil road, there would be ‘No Vehicular Movement’ tomorrow on 26 April on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road from either side,” said an official advisory issued on Tuesday evening.
The Srinagar-Kargil road was closed on April 17 owing to fresh snowfall and avalanches that buried several vehicles.
A large number of vehicles have been stranded in the Sonamarg area since the road was closed. Notably, due to the snow slide, some trucks rolled down the road and suffered minor injuries, which prompted the authorities to close the road.
