LEH: The picturesque town of Leh is all set to welcome international delegates who will be landing here on Tuesday to attend the Youth 20 Pre-Summit, even as the authorities have issued a number of instructions to regulate the traffic for next five days.
The Youth 20 Pre-Summit will be held in Leh from April 26 to 28, 2023 under the aegis of G20 India Summit and will be attended by the delegates from different countries.
The officials from Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports have already arrived in Leh for the event, while delegates will be arriving on Tuesday, officials informed.
“Delegates from as many as 30 countries will arrive in Leh on Tuesday. The administration has made all the arrangement for their stay here, including their arrival, their transportation from the airport, their stay in hotels and their visits in and around the town,” a senior official informed The Earth News.
The delegates will land at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee (KBR) Airport on Tuesday morning, which was visited by Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) on Sunday who inspected the preparations there.
On Monday, a major chunk of officials from Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports arrived here, even as some officials had already landed here on Sunday, officials informed The Earth News.
“The Youth 20 Pre-Summit is going to be the first international event that the union territory of Ladakh will host, after its inception. This will be an opportunity to showcase unique topography and culture of Ladakh at a world level and augment its prominence all over the world,” said the officials.
Meanwhile, the Leh police on Monday issued a traffic advisory, in view of the limited number of parking slots and narrow roads in the town, for smooth movement of international delegates in and around the town.
“The shopkeepers, merchants, hoteliersm public and private employees have been asked to use public transport and car-pooling for long distances and walk for short trips, while the shopkeepers merchants and hoteliers have been requested to deploy one person outside the hotels, shopping complexes and establishments to regulate traffic movement and disallow wrong parking or on-road parking,” said the advisory.
“No heavy vehicles of Army, CAPFs, BRO, GREF and general transport will be allowed to ply in the interior roads of Leh town. No on-road parking would be allowed on Fort Road, old Road, Skara Road, Zen Road, Main market, Petrol pump Chowk and roads leading to heritage and historical places like Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Thiskey and Hemis Monasteries, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Sangam and Magnetic Hill,” it said.
The advisory would remain in effect from 25th to 29th of April, said Leh police.
