American Oncology Institute at ASCOMS successfully performs Stereotactic Radiosurgery

Jammu: American Oncology Institute (AOI) at ASCOMS Hospital, Jammu, Sidhra achieved a milestone by successfully performing stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) on a 1×1 cm brain metastases from lung primary. The procedure was led by Dr Deepak Abrol Senior Consultant Radiation Oncology.

In this case specifically five arcs were used for treatment with one coplanar and 4 non coplanar beams. In a single fraction dose of eighteen Gray was given with a mean dose of 21.1 Gray after due deliberations. Dr Deepak Abrol while explaining about the procedure said that SRS is a Non-Invasive modality to treat brain tumor, brain metastases, and certain benign brain lesions which can give solace to patients non surgically. SRS reduces patient visit to clinic as it can be done in single day and normal brain can be spared of Radiation side effects encountered in whole brain radiotherapy.

Dr Neeraj Bishnoi, Regional COO North said that its our commitment to provide state of art services to people of Jammu and with procedures like this we are progressing towards our goal.

Mr. Vikrant Thakur Facility Director at AOI Jammu congratulated the treating team and reiterated that AOI will work with more zeal to provide excellent cancer care services to people of region. He further adds that AOI will be starting SRS clinics for Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) very soon.

The medical physics team was led by Ms. Manjinder Kaur RSO and included Mr. Gokul Ananth, Medical Physicist, Mr. Ankit Yadav, Intern supported by RTT. Pertinent to mention that whole procedure was supervised by AOI group RSO and chief medical physicist Dr Suresh Chaudhary from Hyderabad and Mr Kulbir Singh , Regional Medical Physicist North from AOI DMC Ludhiana.

Dr Vibhor Gupta, Senior GM-Medical Operations, appreciated the efforts of Team AOI Jammu for providing next level cancer care to people of region.
