LEH: A day after its Chief Executive Councillor Tashi Gyalson said that the representatives of certain media channels who have hurt the sentiments of the people of Ladakh by spreading wrong propaganda against the Dalai Lama should not be allowed to land in Leh for the coverage of upcoming Y20 pre-summit, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh on Tuesday passed a resolution on the same lines.

On the opening day of its annual General Council Meeting (GCM) in Leh, the council passed a resolution against a few media houses, individuals and social media influencers to stop them from entering Ladakh unless they apologize for leveling serious allegations on His Holiness Dalai Lama.

The resolution was moved by council’s chairman Tashi Gyalson.

Leh and Kargil towns of the Ladakh Union Territory had observed a shutdown on Monday in protest against the “controversial video” of the Dalai Lama, which went viral of the social media, drawing criticism against the spiritual leader on social media.

Cutting across the lines of regions, religions and languages, tens of thousands of people in Leh, Kargil, Nubra, Zanskar and other parts of the union territory came out on roads and protested against the defamatory campaign being run against the Tibetan spiritual head.

On Monday, Gylason had informed The Earth News that such media houses and the fake influencers who have hurt the sentiments of Ladakh and its people by running a negative campaign to defame His Holiness Dalai Lama would not be allowed in Ladakh for coverage of upcoming G20 meeting.

“This is the sentiment of the people and I endorse it. I hope the union government will not let them travel to Leh for the coverage (of the pre-summit) and protect our sentiment from further hurting,” Gyalson has told The Earth News.

The CEC said that the media houses and the ‘fake-influencers’ should apologise for their mistake for ‘legitimizing unverified and untrue propaganda’. He also appealed to people & media houses to check facts before sharing messages on social media and to disseminate authentic news.
