Kargil: Lieutenant Governor Brigadier BD Mishra has arrived in Kargil on an extensive visit during which he will take a detailed review of various developmental works in the district.
Mishra will also visits the various locations of Kargil to have a first-hand experience of the issues and problems faced by the locals there, besides understanding the aspirations and expectations of the people.
Mishra started his tour by visiting the monastery at Mulbekh village famous for the statue of Chamba (Maitreya Buddha) on Saturday.
Accompanied by First Lady Neelam Mishra, the LG sought blessings and paid obeisance to the statue of Maitreya Buddha.
“It was a humbling experience to witness an epitome of spirituality and brilliant craftsmanship in the form of the 30 feet tall Statue of Maitriya Buddha at Mulbek. The visit has deepened my appreciation for the rich history & cultural heritage of Ladakh,” the LG said.
During the visit, LG interacted with the public delegations and gave a patient hearing to their grievances and assured to look into the matters.
A delegation from villagers of Panchayat Halqa Karamba in Kargil district led by its Naib Sarpanch, Tsering Stanzin, met LG and raised several issues related to his constituency. He apprised LG of the water issue faced by around 300 households in Fookar, Khatse and Karamba villages and requested for sanctioning a water-lift irrigation project from Fookar Rong-Kachok La.
The LG made a halt at Lotsum village to hear out requests pertaining to infrastructure development in the village. A delegation from Lotusm village led by its Nambardar, Ali Jaffar, met LG and requested for his intervention in the repair along with blacktopping of the internal and link roads of Lotsum village. He also informed about the need to extend the road up to Thongos.
Later in the day, several delegations from Khaltse called on the Mishra.
The members of Panchayat Nambardar Coordination Committee, Sham, led by its Chairman, Tsering Norboo, raised several issues, viz. the need to make Sham area a separate district; the need to upgrade Community Health Centre (CHC) at Khaltse into Sub-District Hospital; the need to provide adequate infrastructure and facilities for students of Government Degree College, Khaltse; promotion of tourism activities and celebration of tourism festivals in Sham area; incentives for hotels, guest houses and homestays; new administrative units for Sham area; the need for the irrigation canal for the new habitations at Patsathang and the need to complete the pending irrigation canal from Wanla River, etc.
The LG assured to look into their matter and instructed the concerned officials to expedite the completion of the pre-fabricated structure at the earliest for the benefit of the students of GDC Khaltse.
Another delegation from Sham Contractor Association met LG and requested for division of Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) works through micro-tendering so that they can also become eligible to apply for such works.
