Srinagar: The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has set up district-level monitoring committee(s) to ensure that drug rehabilitation facilities are operated in accordance with the law and are effectively monitored.

Vide Government Order No: 470-JK(GAD) of 2023, J&K administration has ordered  is to constitute a District Level Monitoring Committee(s) for effective monitoring and functioning of Drug De-addiction Centers in conformity with law in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The committee(s) will comprise of Additional Deputy Commissioner as Chairman, Chief Medical Officer as member, District Social Welfare Officer as member secretary, Representative of Senior Superintendent of Police (Not below the rank of Dy. Superintendent of Police) as member, Medical Officer trained in Mental Health as member.

The committee(s) will inspect the private drug De-addiction Centers running in each district and submitting recommendations/reports to the Divisional Level Monitoring Committee (s) on monthly basis, advising various stakeholders from time to time for implementing the Drug De-addiction policy on ground, and will organize awareness campaigns about habit-forming drugs.

“The Home Department, Health and Medical Education Department and the Social Welfare Department shall continuously monitor the functioning of these committees at their level and submit a monthly report in the matter along with recommendations for suitable corrective action required from time to time”, reads the order.
