Jammu: Sharing success story of central sponsored scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that lives of our mother and sisters has been getting easier with effective implementation of ‘Housing for All’ scheme, under which Jammu Kashmir administration so far built around 1.5 Lakh homes.
Reacting to a series of tweets by Member Parliament Jugal Kishor Sharma, who made mention of the PMAY beneficiary from Surara village of Samba district, the Prime Minister said that the scheme has changed lives of people.
“This happiness of Chanchala Devi ji of Jammu and Kashmir tells how the life of our mothers and sisters is getting easier with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,” the PM tweets.
Earlier, the MP Sharma shared a series of tweets containing photographs and videos to highlight the plight of Chanchla Devi and her son Pawan, who live in a hutment in Surara village of Samba district.
The MP said that when he met earlier met with Chanchala Devi and her son Pawan. They lived in Kaccha House without any protection from rainy or harsh climatic conditions. With the help of the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme Chanchala Devi was able to build a house.
Terming the scheme as a game changer for the poor, the MP said that more than 1,46,000 houses have been built under this scheme in Jammu and Kashmir while around 3 crore houses across the country.
Under the Housing for All scheme the government provides financial assistance for building pucca houses, with basic amenities including hygienic cooking space. In plain areas govt provides unit assistance of Rs. 1.20 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh in hilly states and difficult areas. The beneficiary is also entitled to 90.95 person days of unskilled labour from MGNREGS. Construction of toilets has been felicitated by SBM-G, MGNREGS or any other dedicated source of funding while for piped drinking water, electricity connection, LPG gas connection etc. different Government programmers are also to be attempted.
The cost of unit assistance is to be shared between Central and State Government in the ratio 60:40 in plain areas and 90:10 for North Eastern and the Himalayan States.
