LEH: Taking note of the problems faced by the contractors of the union territory in bagging the big developmental projects, Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) has called for exploring solutions to accommodate them in the developmental journey of Ladakh.

Mishra also called for taking punitive action against the Hotels, Guest Houses and other commercial units not complying with the Pollution Control act, even as he ordered an inquiry into the alleged irregular attendance of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Durbuk.

Mishra passed all these instructions while chairing a review meeting with departmental secretaries at Raj Niwas to review the progress of their respective departments along with pending projects. Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal, ADGP Ladakh Police, Satish Khandare, Commissioner Secretary, Saugat Biswas, Secretaries Ravinder Kumar, Mehboob Ali Khan, Yetinder Maralkar, and Fayaz Ahmed Shaikh and other concerned secretaries were present in the meeting.

At the outset, the LG discussed the issues being faced by local contractors in Ladakh.

“The LG discussed the issues being faced by the Contractors Association of Ladakh in acquiring major works in the union territory,” a Raj Niwas spokesman said, adding that the LG called for exploring solutions to accommodate them in the developmental journey of Ladakh.

The LG instructed the concerned department to look into the matter and suggested to explore possible solutions such as micro-tendering so that even local contractors can avail their benefits if they are able to deliver quality work in a time-bound manner.

The LG inquired about the one-day workshop organised by Ladakh Pollution Control Board on compliance with the Water Act of 1974 and the Air Act of 1981 in Leh.

He instructed Ladakh Pollution Control Board to take punitive action against the Hotels, Guest Houses and other commercial units if they don’t expedite the necessary measures to comply with the Pollution Control act.

Taking a strong note of the complaint received from residents of the Durbuk sub-division regarding the irregular attendance of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), the LG instructed to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, the LG instructed the Department of Social Welfare and Ladakh Police to make the Rehabilitation Centre and the De-addiction Centre functional at the earliest along with necessary security arrangements.

Mishra also inquired about the progress on the rationalisation of wildlife sanctuaries and national park in Ladakh and the damage caused to livestock by the snow leopard attack in Shey, etc.

The concerned departmental secretaries apprised HLG of the progress of their respective departments, said an official handout.
