Leh: Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare visited the border villages in eastern Ladakh as part of the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ for border development on Tuesday.
Tomar visited Dungti village on the eastern border of Chumathang area in Ladakh under the Vibrant Village Programme where he interacted with locals and listened to their problems.
Asserting that the Government of India is committed for the development of this entire region, Tomar said that the objective of the central government is to give benefits of all the schemes and facilities to the people of remote areas.
The Minister visited the houses of the beneficiaries of ‘Nal Jal Yojana’ in Dungti and discussed with them about the scheme.
The scheme is brightening the lives of crores of people by providing pure drinking water to every corner of the country and bringing happiness in rural and remote areas, he said.
The Minister also stopped at the base camp of the 15th Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force where he met the officers and jawans and had his lunch with them.
Later in the day, the minister visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Nyoma in Chumathang, where he inaugurated the Micro Irrigation Unit and Mushroom Lab and observed the Green House Unit.
“Chumathang is a very important area from the prospective of agriculture and animal husbandry. KVK has a very important role in this sector, which is striving to advance agriculture,” he said.
Tomar inspected the stalls put up by various departments including Health Department, Sheep Husbandry and Animal Husbandry Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma.
He also handed over demonstration kits and machines to many beneficiaries during the programme.
