Ladakh women Orgs raise healthcare issues with CEC

Leh: A delegation comprising of the Presidents of the Women’s wing of religious organisations of Leh called on CEC LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson to discuss various issues related to women’s health.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the challenges faced by women on various healthcare issues including Cervical Cancer, especially in rural areas, and discussed ways to address these challenges.

CEC Gyalson directed Chief Medical Officer Leh, Dr Nurzin Angmo to conduct mass social awareness campaigns in every corner of the district, especially on Cervical Cancer, and to provide information regarding vaccines for it.

He also asked CMO Leh and Chief Controller of Finance, LAHDC Leh, Jigmet Namgial to exercise making vaccines freely available for patients in Ladakh in consultation with the UT Administration Ladakh.

CEC Gyalson appreciated the efforts of all the NGOs and social activists, including Dr. Nordan Otzer, for their efforts in conducting various camps to educate and raise awareness among the general public on important health concerns. He added that the Hill Council, Leh is fully committed to ensuring good health and hygiene for women in society and will work effectively to make cervical cancer vaccines available soon.

While discussing recent unfortunate incidents in Leh, CEC Tashi Gyalson expressed his desire to convene a comprehensive discussion with all the stakeholders, including the Administration, Socio-Religious Organisations, and Educational Institutions to brainstorm and thoroughly discuss the issues and preventive measures. The aim is to sensitise the general public on tackling the issues together and to prevent such incidents in the future. He stated that such issues can only be resolved with the support of all the concerned stakeholders of the region.

CEC Tashi Gyalson reassured his support regarding speedy trial on the recent case of sexual abuse of a minor. He also informed that he would take up the matter with the authorities to set up a dedicated POCSO court so that the justice be delivered on time.
