Leh: Demanding justice at the earliest in the recent rape of a minor girl in the district, the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and All Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA) have called for ‘Chakka Jam’ in Leh district on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, LBA president Thupstan Chhewang and LGA president, Acharya Stanzin Wangtak said that the religious bodies, supported by the civil society, trade unions and transport associations of union territory of Ladakh have called for complete shutdown ‘Chakka Jam’ on April 11, to press for fast-track hearing of the rape case.
In a heart-wrenching incident, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man who also tried to kill her in Leh district on March 29. The police, however, solved the case within 48 hours and has arrested the accused.
Interestingly, the Ladakh Legal Services Authority has already established a special court under POCSO Act for a speedy trial in the case.
Thupstan asked the people to hold peaceful protest while shutting down the business establishments on Tuesday, while a rally will be organized at 10 AM.
All Ladakh transports association, merchant association, bike union, 407, 207 unions and other alliances have extended their support to the shutdown call.
