LEH: Asserting that his administration is working tirelessly to meet the aspirations of the people of Ladakh and fill up the identified gaps, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) has announced the formation of various Departmental Boards to look into the issues and take necessary measures for better governance, particularly in the field of education, health, administrative structure and security of the people of the region.
The LG also flagged the need of efficient water management, plantation drives, zero-emission buildings and projects, protection and promotion of pashmina wool, even as he said that the administration would talk to private airlines to tackle the issue of exorbitant fares charged by them during the winter in Ladakh.
Mishra was speaking after virtually inaugurating the Additional Block of Kargil House which has been constructed at Bemina in Srinagar on Sautrday.
Spread over 3,878 square feet, the Additional Block of the Kargil House has a Multipurpose Hall, Dining Hall, Kitchen, 16 bedrooms, four VIP rooms and two dormitories with the capacity to house 60 people. The multi-storied disabled-friendly building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7.876 crores.
Congratulating the people of Kargil along with LAHDC Kargil and officials, the LG emphasised the need to develop facilities for the people of Ladakh as he announced the the plan to provide modern facilities to the public at the upcoming New Capitol Complex at Leh.
“The Administration will provide sufficient fundings to projects which have been developed for the benefit of the overall citizens of Ladakh,” said the LG and highlighted four sectors viz. education, health, trade and sports, which need more development.
Stressing the need to envision facilities which could be utilised by future generations as well, the LG also called for renovation and improvement in the existing old buildings at Kargil House in Srinagar and Jammu.
Highlighting the need to meet the aspirations of the people of Ladakh and fill up the gaps, especially in developmental activities, after the formation of Ladakh as a Union Territory, Mishra announced that various Departmental Boards would be formed to look into the issues and take necessary measures in the field of education, health, administrative structure and security for the benefit of the people of Ladakh.
He sought cooperation from both the Hill Councils in this regard and emphasised the need to resolve various issues faced by the citizens of Ladakh on a fast-track basis.
The LG highlighted the need for water management to overcome the issue of shortage of water, the need to conduct plantation drives to improve green cover in Ladakh, the need to promote zero-emission buildings and projects in Ladakh to achieve the goal of a carbon-neutral Ladakh and the need to take measures to protect pashmina wool as a rich asset of the people of Ladakh.
He emphasised the need to talk to private airlines to tackle the issue of exorbitant fares charged by them during the winter in Ladakh.
Seeking the cooperation from Hill Councils, PRIs representatives and officials in ensuring a corruption-free and delay-free Ladakh for the overall benefit of the people of Ladakh and to improve the satisfaction level of people residing in remote villages of Ladakh, the LG commended the efforts of Member of Parliament from Ladakh,
Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, and Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan for taking various initiatives for the comfortable stay of students, patients and Haj pilgrims from Kargil at Srinagar, Jammu and Delhi.
Feroz Khan informed the LG that the accommodations at Jammu, Srinagar and Delhi would be utilised by patients, Haj pilgrims and students, and also on the status of the hostels at Srinagar and Jammu, besides the Ladakh Bhawan Kargil Unit at Dwarka in Delhi with the capacity to house 60 people, requesting the LG for funds for other big projects in the future also.
Namgyal highlighted the need to make these accommodation facilities hassle-free for patients, pilgrims and students along with giving preference to patients to use these facilities and requested for a dispensary at the Kargil House along with an ambulance facility for the convenience of patients who visit Srinagar for medical check-ups and treatments.
Advisor Umang Narula congratulated the officials from PW(R&B) Kargil for completing the construction of the Additional Block of the Kargil House in Srinagar in a short time. He highlighted the funds allocated by the Administration for various development projects in Ladakh and outside Ladakh for the convenience of the people of Ladakh.
