Delegation from Phyang & Director NISR call on LG BD Mishra; discuss several issues

Leh: A delegation from Phyang village comprising Councillor, Phyang, Shri Tundup Nurboo along with Sarpanch and Nambardar, Phyang; venerable monks from Phyang Monastery and members of women’s association called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.

 Tundup apprised LG of the construction of a museum at Phyang monastery to preserve and put centuries-old statues and sacred artefacts on display for visitors. He informed that the museum will also honour the memories of Bravehearts who fought against the Kabali attack in 1948. He also informed that Phyang monastery belongs to Drikung Kagyud, which is one of the oldest Buddhist sects in Ladakh.

Tundup along with the members of the women’s association from Phyang raised the issue of the acquisition of land by the government and the need to resolve the conflict among the villagers on the land-related issue.

LG assured to look into the matter.

Director, National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR), Shri Padma Gyurmet, called on the HLG at Raj Niwas.

Shri Padma informed HLG that Sowa Rigpa is one of the recognised systems of medicine by the Ministry of Ayush and one of the oldest medical traditions in the world. He also informed that Sowa Rigpa is the Science of Healing. He informed about the book being compiled by NISR on the medicinal plants of Ladakh.

Shri Padma informed HLG about the development of a herbal garden spread over 200 kanals of land. He also informed that around 50% of public healthcare is covered by the traditional medicine system.

LG commended the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa for promoting the traditional medicine system.
