Ladakh UT sets Apr 10 deadline for const of public toilets

LEH: Ahead of the G20 summit to be held here, the Union Territory administration is planning to complete a number of projects in both Leh and Kargil, even as it has set April 10 deadline for construction of public toilets, besides assigning personnel to impose penalties on the sanitation offenders who urinate in public spaces.

In this regard, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department and School Education Department, Ladakh, Sanjeev Khirwar convened a meeting in his office chamber at Civil Secretariat, Leh to discuss the status of works of H&UDD and SED assigned to National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

Chief Engineer, PWD, Ladakh, Tashi Chombel in a detailed presentation outlined the status of projects lined up with NHIDCL for Urban Local Bodies and SED Depts viz. renovation and resurfacing of various road sections; walkways; underground cable trench; water ATMs; winter-friendly bus stops; shopping complex; office complex Dambuchan;, truck terminal; beautification of the road from Spituk to polo ground Leh; boundary walls in Drass, Sankoo, Zanskar; central heating system at Paras Hall, Leh; central heating system at CEO Office Kargil, amongst others.

While deliberating on the issues apprised by the officials, the Principal Secretary stressed on completion of certain projects in both Leh and Kargil before the G20 Summit commences in Ladakh.

He instructed the officials of NHIDCL to conduct a joint survey with Education Dept and revise the DPR with estimates accordingly for school projects.

The Principal Secretary also directed to finish the construction of toilets by April 10 with suitable signages for public convenience.

Khirwar also instructed to assign personnel to deal with sanitation offenders who urinate in public spaces so that penalties could be imposed.

The meeting was attended by Director Housing & Urban Development Department Ladakh, Dr Zahida Bano; Director School Education Department Ladakh, Safdar Ali; Chief Engineer PWD Ladakh, Tashi Chombel; Deputy General Manager NHIDCL, Ladakh and other concerned officials.
