Will spare no effort in making UT a theatre destination: CEC Gyalson

LEH: Asserting that there was a sufficient scope for the amalgamation of theatre and tourism industry of the union territory, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, Tashi Gyalson said that council will spare no effort in making Ladakh a theatre destination.

The CEC was speaking at the World Theatre Day celebration at Lotsava Hall, organised by Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Language, Leh in collaboration with Ladakh Theatre Organisation, said an official spokesperson on Tuesday.

Gyalson was the Chief Guest while Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal was the Guest of honour on the occasion.

In his address, the CEC emphasised the importance of theatre medium, its significance and its audience.

A number of factors including unplanned urbanisation and migration pose a serious threat to our culture and identity. Theatre is one of the strongest forces to have preserved our culture, said the CEC.

He emphasised on the importance of having a sustainable economy for the theatre community.

“Through innovative ideas theatre can amalgamate with the Tourism Industry so that passion and sustainable income will go hand in hand,” said the CEC.

Gyalson stated that the Hill Council will provide requisite assistance and will spare no effort to make Ladakh a theatre destination.

He also congratulated and appreciated the endeavours of LTO (Ladakh Theatre Organisation, Leh) for a very powerful performance on World Theatre Day and said that it has tried to spread awareness pertaining to social issues of Society.

On the occasion, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgial stated that the theatre is an indispensable bridge-builder for mutual understanding, which promotes and protects cultural diversity and identity.

He spoke on the History and importance of Bhoti Language and Theatre, which is part of the 10 sciences of knowledge, theatre role in one’s confidence building etc.

The MP appreciated cultural activist for their efforts in conserving and protecting our rich art and heritage and also reviving the cultural traditions of our community.

President of LTO Mipham Otsal expressed gratitude and stresses the importance of the Theatre in developing the culture and the tradition of Ladakh. The need of an encouragement and support in inculcating the character among the youth to opt theatre in their curriculum and how theatre exposes young people to new vocabulary and ways of communication through different forms of art.

Focusing on the importance of moral education, he further added that the parents and teachers, should cultivate good moral values in children from the beginning, stressing the need of a separate subject on moral education.
