The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, announced that the administration is set to make a provision to provide land and homes to poor families in the Union Territory. At an event organized to celebrate the 450th Prakash Utsav of Goswami Guru Nabha Dass Maharaj, Sinha said that many poor families in Jammu and Kashmir face difficulty due to the lack of laws to provide land to landless families. It will soon come out with a provision to provide land to such families, enabling them to own their own houses.
There is currently no law in Jammu and Kashmir that provides land to landless poor families, which has resulted in a significant number of such families facing difficulties in owning their homes. This lack of provision has created a significant gap in the social and economic development of these families. The administration’s commitment to resolving this issue is therefore a welcome step towards ensuring inclusive growth and development in the Union Territory.
Sinha announced that the houses for landless families will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This scheme aims to provide affordable housing to people belonging to the economically weaker section, lower-income group, and middle-income group. The scheme aims to achieve its objective through a credit-linked subsidy scheme and a subsidy on the interest rate on home loans.
Sinha emphasized that the welfare of the poor is the topmost priority of the administration. He added that the government is committed to ensuring that no individual or section of society is left behind in the development journey of Jammu and Kashmir. The administration is taking various steps to ensure socio-economic development of poor and marginalized persons in the Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the various steps taken by the administration towards inclusive growth and development in Jammu and Kashmir. These include:
The historic decision of August 5, 2019, ended the decades-old discrimination against deprived sections of society. This step has been critical in ensuring that Jammu and Kashmir is marching ahead with the spirit of welfare of every section of society.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inclusive growth and development are the focus of the administration. The new industrial revolution, welfare of farmers, labourers and workers, empowerment of the youth, women, and deprived sections. Universal health coverage, e-governance, and start-up ecosystem, among others, are reflecting the true picture of new and aspirational Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha urged all citizens to promote the spirit of brotherhood and to strengthen the fabric of emotional bonds to fulfill the resolve of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
The administration will also provide land for building a ‘Smriti Bhavan’ in memory of Guru Nabha Dass Ji. This initiative is a tribute to the great guru and will further strengthen the social and cultural fabric of the Union Territory.
