KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan on Thursday convened a meeting at Council Secretariat with the concerned departments and stakeholders to review the Ramadan arrangements in Kargil district.
Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil, Anayat Ali Chowdhary, District Officers and representatives of major religious organizations of Kargil were present during the meeting.
During the meeting, the CEC directed PDD and PHE departments to provide an uninterrupted supply of power and water during Ramadan in the district.
He instructed Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Cooperative Departments to ensure the availability of ration and essential commodities in their outlets.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Committee Kargil was directed to ensure cleanliness as per routine. Furthermore, the CEC directed all the other concerned departments to ensure timely arrangements of their required services without any interruption, especially on the “Shab-e-Qadar”, last Friday’s congregation ceremony and Martyrdom Day of Imam Ali.
Heads of religious organizations shared some concerns and suggestions during the meeting regarding the proper execution of religious events and congregational marches during the holy month.
Representatives of Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil requested to allow 21 Ramadan Juloos from Islamia School Chowk to Inqalab Manzil Qatlgah this year to which the CEC assured necessary decisions will be taken after thorough discussion with District Administration.
Further, representative of Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust requested to allow mobile vegetable vendors in premises of Kargil town as the majority of town dwellers face difficulties in purchasing fresh vegetables due to closure of vegetable shops.
The CEC directed the concerned department to take necessary measures regarding the issue and asked to allot vegetable vehicles at Baroo, Bus Stand and Balti Bazar taxi stand.
Representatives of Anjuman Sofia Noorbakshia requested to allow passenger traffic on the Zojila Pass as people remain stuck in Jammu and Srinagar and wish to come home in Ramadan. Further they also requested to designate 21 Ramadan, the Martyrdom Day of Imam Ali as District Holiday.
Reacting to the requests, the CEC said only way passenger vehicles will be allowed on Zojila from day after tomorrow. Regarding the request of holiday, on 21 Ramadan, he said the matter will be taken with the UT Administration.
Representatives of Anjuman Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat Kargil expressed gratitude for cleaning the premises of Eidgah and raised the issue of traffic congestion on the Eidgah road due to unplanned parking that needs to be resolved.
The representatives expressed hope that all sorts of support and cooperation will be extended by the District Administration in the peaceful and satisfactory conduct of the important events during the holy month of Ramadan.
The CEC added that the concerned officers took note of all suggestions and expected smooth execution of directions for a peaceful and prosperous Ramadan for the people of Kargil.
During the meeting, DC Santosh Sukhadeve congratulated the people of Kargil on the holy month of Ramadan. He said that directions have been forwarded to the concerned departments so that the general public don’t suffer due to lack of basic facilities.
DC Kargil said that the PHE department has been directed to make all water services in the town and other areas of the district. He added that due to the timely display of rate list this year, rates are already under control.
Regarding the request of the holiday, on 21 Ramadan, DC Santosh also said that the matter will be taken up with UT Administration.
