NEW DELHI: The union government on Tuesday cleared Professor Rajesh Ranjan to the post of Vice Chancellor of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS)- a Deemed to be University located in Choglamsar, Leh, Ladakh.
“The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has approved the appointment of Professor Rajesh Ranjan to the post of Vice Chancellor of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies,” said Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.
“I express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister, Minister of Culture, and Member Parliament Ladakh for the appointment of full-time Vice Chancellor for CIBS,” said Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in a video message.
“This decision is much-needed and will positively impact the growth of education and research in Buddhist studies. Thank you for prioritising education and investing in the future of Ladakh,” he added.
The Central Institute of Buddhist Studies was formerly known as the School of Buddhist Philosophy, founded in 1959 and formerly affiliated to the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in Varanasi.
In 2016, the Central Government, on the advice of the University Grants Committee (UGC), declared that the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, was ‘deemed to be university’ for the purpose of the UGC Act, 1956.
