LEH: First assessment test of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy of New India Literacy Programme (NILP) under ‘Education for All’ was successfully conducted at all the learning centres of Leh and Kargil districts on Sunday.
Around 10,000 Adult Learners in the UT participated in the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test at 369 Literacy Centres in both the districts. 496 VTs and 369 teachers were engaged for supervisory staff during the test.
Gagan Kumar Kamat, Observer from the Ministry of Education to Ladakh visited various Literacy Centres of Kargil to monitor the smooth conduct of the Assessment, even as Director School Education, Ladakh, Dr Safdar Ali, besides Chief Education Officers and Zonal Education Officers also visited and inspected the centers for monitoring.
Kamat visited Government Middle Schools of Chaukiyal, Throngos and Goshan where he monitored the examination process taken to assess the foundational numeracy and literacy of the learners of concerned areas.
The Observer interacted with the volunteer trainers and learners and asked them about the procedure of learning and took an assessment of the examination procedure, even as he directed the concerned to complete the works under the assessment of foundational numeracy and literacy at the earliest.
New India Literacy Program (NILP) is a new Central Sponsored Scheme on Education for All that is in alignment with the recommendation of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
The Assessment Test was conducted as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Question- Cum-Answer Booklet (QAB) translated into local languages were issued to the adult learners for the attempt and collected for evaluation at the Zonal level. The adult learners were enthusiastic and passionate during the test which is a stepping towards literacy.
Nearly 5000 Adult learners participated in the test with full enthusiasm in Leh and Khalste zones, while a similar number of learners from Kargil took the test.
The second phase of the program will be conducted for left over illiterates which are around 16,000 in the Kargil District including Zanskar Sub Division, while a similar number of learners are expected to be enrolled in Leh district.
