Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) held a meeting with the concerned departmental secretaries to discuss the progress of development works of their respective departments, at Raj Niwas.

Emphasising the need to ensure that the benefits of various central and UT government schemes are being availed by even the residents of rural areas in the most remote areas of Ladakh, LG instructed that the main aim of the departmental secretaries should be to help the people of Ladakh as ‘every Ladakhi is a respected citizen and is entitled to benefits of all the government schemes.’

LG inquired about the non-functioning of the CT Scan machine at the District Hospital in Kargil. Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kargil, Dr Munawar Hussain, informed HLG that the CT Scan machine, which was purchased in 2010 and installed in 2011, became non-functional in the last week of February following which a tender was floated for the purchase of a new CT Scan machine after funds were sanctioned by the UT Administration for the purchase of the said machine. Dr Kotwal informed HLG that the faulty part of the CT scan machine has been sent to Hyderabad for repair. LG instructed that an MRI machine should be installed at District Hospital in Kargil along with the new CT Scan machine in a time-bound manner.

Keeping in mind the ongoing preparatory works for the Youth 20 (Y20) pre-summit to be held in Leh in April under the aegis of G20, HLG instructed the concerned departmental secretaries and officials to do tiling work, cleaning of construction waste and nullahs, installing the cover on drainage grills and cleaning and repairing flower beds around Leh town. He inquired about the UT/state flower, tree and song and instructed Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal, to look into the matter and identify the UT/State flower, tree and song at the earliest. He also instructed the concerned departmental secretaries to streamline the absence of employees from their duties.

LG instructed Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Ladakh Police, Shri Sheikh Junaid, to ensure that sirens and escorts are only provided to those who are entitled to them. He also instructed DIG Ladakh Police not to cause any inconvenience to the public by stopping the flow of traffic during the passage of any elected representative or government official, including the HLG himself.

LG instructed Commanding Officer, 1 Ladakh Battalion NCC Leh, Col VS Johar, to prepare 12 boys and girls NCC cadets so that they could be sent for training at the nearest naval station at the earliest. Such trainings, he said, would not only provide exposure to the young boys and girls from Ladakh but also open new opportunities for them.

LG instructed Secretary, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Ravinder Kumar, to write to the Government of India if the fund sanctioned for the purchase of Merino Sheep from Australia could instead be utilised for the promotion and breeding of indigenous Ladakhi cattle and pashmina goat so that even the people living in the remote border villages can avail the benefits.

The departmental secretaries and concerned officials informed HLG about the pending works in their departments, the issues faced by them and the timeline in which the work is expected to be completed.

Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner Secretary, Padma Angmo, IIS; Secretary, Mehboob Ali Khan, IRS; Secretary, Yetindra M. Maralkar, IAS; Deputy Inspector General, Ladakh Police, Sheikh Junaid, IPS and concerned officials from other departments were present in the meeting.
