SRINAGAR: A total of six Hydro Electric projects with a capacity of 3099.50 MW are under implementation in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Out of the 6 Hydro Electric projects, five are in Kishtwar and one in Poonch.
This was informed by the Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh in Lok Sabha on Thursday. The minister was asked about the details of the number of ongoing hydro-power projects across the country, State/UT-wise including Rajasthan.
Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh informed that in Kishtwar a 1000 MW on Marusadar/Chenab /Indus under the central government is under implementation. The minister said that the project will be commissioned 2025-26 (July 25).
He further informed that again in Kishtwar, the 850 MW project Chenab/ Indus under the central government is also under implementation. Adding that he said that the project will be commissioned 2026-27 (May 26).
Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh further informed that in Kishtwar under Kiru (CVPPL) scheme, a 624 MW hydro electric project is coming on Chenab/ Indus, which is under the central government. The project will be commissioned 2025-26 (July 25)
The minister also informed that under Ratle (RHEPPL / NHPC) scheme in Kishtwar, the 540 MW hydro electric project on Chenab/ Indus is under implementation, which will be commissioned 2026-27 (May 26).
The other two hydro electric projects including under Parnai (JKSPDC) scheme on Jhelum/ Indus a 37.50 MW hydro electric project in Poonch are under implementation, which will be commissioned in 2024-25 (June 24), the minister said.
Adding that he said, “In Kishtwar, 48.00 MW hydroelectric projects on Chenab/ Indus is under implementation. However, there is a contractual issue going on with regard to the project”.
Sharing the information about state wise list of potential sites, installed projects and ongoing projects in the Small Hydro Electric Projects (SHP) sector, Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh that there are 103 projects (below 25 MW) of total potential in Jammu and Kashmir.
Adding that he said such projects have a capacity of 1311.79 MW, under which 20 have been, completed which has a capacity of 146.68 MW. The minister further informed that 7 projects are under implementation which have a capacity of 44.15 MW.
