LEH: From April 1, Persons with Disabilities will mandatorily require Unique Disability ID (UDID) to avail benefits and relaxation under the various government schemes in the union territory of Ladakh.
This was informed by Padma Angmo, Commissioner/Secretary, Social & Tribal Welfare Department, Ladakh.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) has announced that the UDID number or UDID card will be mandatory for availing benefits and relaxation under the schemes of DEPwD and its associated organizations viz. National Trust, RCI, NHFDC, ALIMCO, All National Institutes and Composite Regional Centres, etc with effect from 1 April, 2023, she said.
“In view of the notice from the DEPwD, all Departments, Institutes, Organizations, Statutory Bodies, Public Sector Undertakings will be required to ensure strict compliance with the mandatory requirement of UDID number or UDID enrolment number along with a copy of disability for extending benefits and relaxation on schemes with effect from April 1,” said Angmo.
In case, UDID card is not available, UDID enrolment number (Generated from UDID portal only) along with the certificate of disability will be mandatory, she said, adding that a physical copy of the disability certificate will not be required, in case of availability of a valid UDID number or UDID card.
“All Persons with Disabilities in Ladakh who have not availed the UDID card in the recent campaign and drives undertaken by the Districts, may immediately apply for UDID Card on the portal www.swavlambancard.gov.in,” said the commissioner secretary.
Under the UDID project, Unique Disability Identity (UDID) cards are issued to Persons with Disabilities based on the evaluation and assessment of the type and percentage of disability.
