Leh, March 10: A district level meeting regarding the joint action plan on prevention of Drugs and substance abuse among children and illicit trafficking was chaired by ADC, Leh Sonam Chosjor today at VC conference Hall.
The meeting discussed the action taken by the designated members on the directions issued in the previous meetings and to formulate the future course of action against the drugs abuse in the district.
At the outset, the ADC, Leh took detailed feedback from every concerned Department regarding and measures undertaken for combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
During the meeting, the Officers apprised about the situation with regard to the drug menace and shared their suggestions and measures to be taken at District level to control the drug peddling and its consumption, besides measures for rehabilitation of drug victims.
ADC, Leh directed the concerned officers to conduct a meeting soon with the Trade Association regarding the sale of inhalants. Besides, he directed DSWO, Leh to conduct quarterly meetings on time.
Similarly, Chief Education Officer, Leh informed that CCTV cameras have already been installed in Higher Secondary Schools in the city area.
Further, he directed the officers and officials of various departments to submit the latest data at the earliest. Also, directed all the concerned stakeholder to create awareness of the risks and dangers of drug and substance abuse among children through community outreach programs, public education campaigns, and workshops.
It was also suggested in the meeting that parents and teachers should be targeted for awareness rather than the School children,
Chairman, Child Welfare Committee, Leh informed that awareness camp was organised at Lingshed , Durbuk, Kharu and all the villages of Leh block.
