Leh, Mar 08: ICDS Project, Leh celebrated International Women’s Day at EJM College, Leh today. Dr. Yangchan Dolma, Nominated Councillor (Women), LAHDC Leh attended the event as the chief guest.

District Programme Officer ICDS Leh, Tsering Paldan, Chairperson BDC Nyoma, Urgain Chodon; Contractor, Tsering Yangzom; Everester, Rigzin Dolkar; Legal Advisor Saira Praveen, and various female Anganwadi workers and CDPO Supervisors of ICDS Project, Leh attended the celebration.

Dr. Yangchan greeted the audience on the occasion of International Women’s Day. In her keynote address, she stressed the need for encouraging women’s participation in all developmental sectors. She added that Ladakhi women are contributing hugely in various fields be it academics, business, agriculture and social work, etc. to date. She hoped to see many successful women from Ladakh with flying colours in the future.

Other speakers included BDC Nyoma, Urgain Chodon, Contractor Tsering Yangzom, and Everester, Rigzin Dolker. While sharing their experiences and challenges in their careers, they highlighted the need for breaking age-old stereotypes and social taboos within society on considering women as an inferior gender. They further urged Ladakhi parents to encourage their wards, especially girls in living and achieving their dreams.

Earlier, DPO Leh, Tsering Paldan familiarised the audience with various government welfare schemes for women whereas, Legal Advisor, Saira Praveen highlighted the legal solutions and way outs for women’s safety. 

Anganwadi workers presented cultural performances in the end.
