Kargil, March 08, 2023: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan today felicitated 80 participants who participated in the 14-day basic and intermediate ski course conducted by the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) Kargil in collaboration with Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association at Auditorium Hall Kargil.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani, Principal IISM Branch Kargil, Col. JS Dhillon, Assistant Tourism Officer (ATO) Kargil, Rasool Lal, instructors, participants besides other concerned officers were present during the certificate distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEC congratulated the participants for receiving certificates in the basic and intermediate training course. He also hailed the efforts of Col. J S Dhillon for the successful conducting the training camp for enthusiastic sports lovers of the district.
Khan said Kargil has immense potential for winter sports and adventure tourism which needs to be developed further. He said in this regard, LAHDC, Kargil is fully committed to providing logistic support to develop winter sports and adventure tourism infrastructure in the district.
The CEC also requested Col. J S Dhillon to hold such camps in future also. Pertinently, many ski enthusiasts from outside Ladakh also participated in this training camp.
Terming them the ambassadors of Kargil, Khan urged them to project the image of Kargil as a peaceful and adventurous place in order to boost winter sports and tourism in the district.
ADC Kargil also congratulated the participants and medal winners. He said Kargil has a huge potential in the winter games which can also prove as a good source of employment generation.
The ADC assured that the District Administration will provide full support to develop infrastructure to further push winter sports in the district.
On the occasion, Col. J S Dhillon highlighted the other potential slops like Umba, Mamamtop, Drass, Padum, Sapi etc. He said the infrastructure development will help to develop these slops as world-class destinations for snow skiing in the district.
