Leh, Feb 25: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), met a delegation from Durbuk and Changthang comprising Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee; Councillor, Nyoma, Eshey Spalzang; Councillor, Korzok, Karma Namdak and nominated Councillor, Ven Konchok Tsephel, at Raj Niwas.
The delegation led by Tashi Namgyal Yakzee congratulated Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) on assuming the charge of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. They requested to grant district status to Changthang; the need for inclusion of Nyoma sub-division for uninterrupted electricity coverage through Northern Power Grid Transmission lines being laid; the need for a separate Tourism Development Authority for Chandigarh to develop tourism-related infrastructure and facilities; issuance of Actual Line of Control (ALC) certificate so that the youth can avail benefits during recruitment drives; the need for opening Govt Degree College at Nyoma and Durbuk sub-division; the need for rationalisation of the wildlife area in Changthang to avoid hindrance in developmental works and the need for upgradation of Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Nyoma to Sub-District Hospital. They also requested to continue the Changthang Development Package for the benefit of the people of Changthang.
Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Mohsin Ali, met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas. Lieutenant Governor, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) informed Mohsin that around 350 citizens of Ladakh would be airlifted from Chandigarh to Thoise by IAF’s flight on February 26. Similarly, Ladakhis stranded at Jammu would also be airlifted and brought to Leh by IAF’s flight on February 26. Citizens of Ladakh stranded in Delhi would be asked to go to Delhi, where they would be airlifted and brought to Leh on February 27. He stated that the UT Administration would make full efforts to put a check on the exorbitant airfare charged by the flights operating in Leh.
Lieutenant Governor, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) inquired about the functioning of the governance at the grassroots level in Ladakh. Mohsin informed about Rs 1 crore fund allocated to Block Development Councils (BDCs) and Councillors for carrying out developmental activities in their constituencies. He requested to define the roles of the elected representatives and the government officials to avoid interference and duplicity of developmental works.
Mohsin requested for the fulfilment of the long-pending demand of the people of Kargil for a full-fledged airstrip for the operation of civil flights. He also requested for intervention in improving the telecommunication connectivity in remote villages of Kargil district. He assured to provide full support and work in close coordination with the UT Administration for the development of Ladakh.
Lieutenant Governor, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), met BJP State President, Punchok Stanzin; Vice-President, Dorjay Angchok; Vice-President, Gyal P Wangyal; General Secretary, Dr Skalzang Dorjay and Municipal In-charge, PT Kunzang at Raj Niwas. Lieutenant Governor, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), emphasised the importance of working for the benefit of the people of Ladakh and asked them to focus on social work activities to help the people of Ladakh.
Later, Chief Executing Officer (CEO), Looms of Ladakh, Smt Lobzang Lhamo along with members met the Hon’ble Lt Guv Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and First Lady Smt Neelam Mishra, at Raj Bhawan. Commissioner/Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Saugat Biswas, was present in the meeting.
Smt Lhamo apprised the Lt Guv of various handloom and handicraft products made by the members of the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) comprising women from remote areas of Ladakh. She informed that Looms of Ladakh was initiated in 2017 with the aim to improve the livelihood of women of Ladakh through handloom and handicraft products made from pashmina and yak wool. She further informed about the ongoing construction of their work station at Kuzey in Choglamsar.
Smt Lhamo informed about various initiatives taken by them, including making individual payments directly into the accounts of the members of SHGs to motivate the workers.
Lt Guv highlighted the importance of marketing for the sales of the products and the need to provide right and proportionate incentives to the workers. He inquired about the capacity-building trainings being provided to the SHGs and entrepreneurs in Ladakh. He instructed Commissioner/Secretary, Industries and Commerce, to conduct activities in the lean period during the winters so that the members of SHGs can earn their livelihood during this period also. He assured to provide all assistance for the growth of the women SHGs.
Commissioner/Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Saugat Biswas informed about capacity-building training programmes held for SHGs and entrepreneurs through NIFD and developing marketing avenues through TRIFED. He also informed about the establishment of Brand Ladakh Emporium at Leh and the upcoming Brand Ladakh Emporium at Delhi. He further informed about steps being taken by the Administration for the export of the products of the SHGs and entrepreneurs with the help of Export Promotion Council of India. Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, informed about the participation of various SHGs and entrepreneurs from Ladakh in fairs and exhibitions, including Enchanting Ladakh at Dilli Haat in Delhi.
First Lady Neelam Mishra appreciated the efforts of the members of Looms of Ladakh for the promotion of local handloom and handicraft products.
