Kargil, Feb 23: Executive Councilor for Tourism, RD and Zanskar Affair, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi today took the matter of snow clearance from Shinkunla Darcha Padum (NPD) road by writing to Chief Engineer, Project Yojak as hundreds of pilgrims from Zanskar remain stranded in Himachal Pradesh waiting for reopening of the road.

OC 126 RCC Padum has intimated that soon snow clearance team is mobilizing to clear snow from Shinkunla so as to reopen Padum Manali road.

Meanwhile, the snow clearance on Kargil-Zanskar road NH-301 has been completed and the road was thrown open for vehicular traffic today. Around 30 light motor vehicles carrying around 220 passengers mostly students reached Kargil safely.

Due to congestion on some portions of the road, one-way traffic was allowed from Zanskar side today. Tomorrow, the administration shall allow traffic from Kargil towards Padum, Zanskar.

EC Tashi appreciated the efforts of ground workers of NHIDCL and Mechanical Division Kargil for keeping the road open most of the time during winter amid harsh climatic conditions.
