JAMMU, JANUARY 24: Centre for Women’s Studies of Government College for Women Parade Ground, celebrated National Girl Child Day to promote awareness about the rights of Girl Child.
A movie show, followed by an interactive session on the theme of gender discrimination and women empowerment was organized by the centre. Three short movies depicting different phases of a girl’s life were screened for the students and faculty of college.
Dr. Sonia Khajuria, convener centre for Women’s Studies presented the formal welcome address and threw light on the importance of observing National Girl Child Day.
Earlier, the event was inaugurated by Dr. S P Sarswat, Principal of the college.
In his address, he laid stress on achieving the objective of the day, which is to ensure that girls get all rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Furthermore, he lauded the efforts of Centre for Women’s Studies for organizing meaningful events in the campus, which boosts the confidence of girls and give them an opportunity to express themselves without any hesitation. Students and faculty actively participated in the interactive session and shared their thoughts on Gender discrimination and the importance of women empowerment. The event was attended by more than 100 students and they were also served refreshments while watching movies.
The event was managed by the organizing committee comprising Dr. Piyali Arora, Dr. Palak Malhotra, Dr. Mamta Sharma, Dr. Pallavi Jamwal and Dr. Asha Rani. Dr. Pallavi Jamwal conducted the proceedings of the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Palak Malhotra.
