Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan flagged off the 36th Pune International Marathon at Sanas sports ground near Sarasbaug, at the midnight of 3rd December.
Executive Councillor Tourism LAHDC Kargil Er. Phunsok Tashi, MLAs Sangram Thopte, Sunil Tingare and Sunil Kamble, Councilor Taisuru Constituency Syed Abbas Razvi, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil A G Zargar, Founder Sarhad Pune Sanjay Nahar, dignitaries and thousands of athletes and sports lovers were present at the flag off ceremony.
Earlier the dignitaries from Kargil were given a warm welcome and were felicitated by the organizers of the marathon. Over 15000 runners including 80 international competitors participated in the event. The 42.195 km full marathon for men and women will make two trips of the route covering Sanas ground-Sarasbaug-Sinhagad road and the circle at Nanded city.
The half marathon will start at 12.30 am and the participants will make only one trip of the same route followed by those running the full marathon. In addition to this, 10 km, 5 km, 3.5 km races and the wheelchair race will take place from 6 am on December 4 morning.
Winners of Kargil Marathon Jigmet Namgial, Disket Dolma and Gulnaz Fatima participated in the Pune midnight Marathon. Pertinently this is the only 1st and oldest Marathons in the country.
