Leh: A meeting regarding National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR) Leh and the development of medicinal plants sector and Sowa Rigpa system of medicine was convened by National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under its chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura at NCM, New Delhi.
NCM Member, Rinchen Lhamo; Special Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, P K Pathak; Director, NISR Leh, Dr Padma Gurmet; Dean Sowa-Rigpa, Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh, Dr Thinlas Yangjor and Senior officers of NCM attended the meeting.
Sowa Rigpa related issues of Ladakh and other Himalayan regions and the potential of medicinal plants for economic development of Himalayan regions were discussed in detail. The meeting decided to pursue UT of Ladakh for appointment of Sowa Rigpa doctors, enhancement of stipend for traditional amchis, development of medicinal plants and hot springs in Ladakh.
The Ministry of AYUSH was requested to sanction posts for NISR at the earliest and to establish a Sowa Rigpa Research Centre with a branch in Himalayan region for proper development of Sowa Rigpa.
Chairman, NCM, Iqbal Singh Lalpura emphasised to explore the possibility of development of medicinal plants sector as one of the major economic and livelihood options for the minority communities of Ladakh. Member, NCM, Rinchen Lhamo assured full support of NCM for preservation and promotion of Sowa Rigpa system of medicine with guidance of Chairman NCM.
