RD&PRD organizes gender equality week at GM Pore

Kargil: The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RD&PRD) Kargil organized a gender equality campaign at GM Pore Gram Panchayat A.

ACD Ghulam Mohd, District Panchayat Officer (DPO), Padma Angmo, Block Development Officer, Asgar Ali, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Khairoon Nissa, Sarpanch Roqiya Bano, Panchs, officials of Special Cell for Women, Social Worker Hasina Batool, One Stop Center Administrator, Umul Banin beside villagers, Self Help Groups attended the event.

The ACD and DPO spoke at length on gender equality and women empowerment which are essential to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The DPO informed participants about various schemes of RD&PRD and also sensitized about preparation of Village Poverty Reduction Plan (VPRP) to achieve SDG 5 and to strive to make GM Pore village a women friendly village.

She also directed the concerned officials to organize Mahila Sabha to prepare a plan regarding the welfare of women and get it incorporated in the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).

Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Khairoon Nissa informed about various social welfare schemes such as vocational centres, widow pension, scheme for specially-abled persons, disability schemes and marriage assistant program.

One Stop Centre Administrator, Umul Banin briefed about women’s shelter and its services. She also briefed about the importance of such awareness camps. Social Worker Haseena Batool spoke about gender role, consent, challenges and how gender role creates inequality in society and why it need to be changed. She also spoke about emerging issues like blackmailing, harassment, cyber bullying etc.

Pertinently, the gender equality program will be organized in different villages of Kargil. It is aimed aware people about the rights of women and address structural barriers so that women live a dignified life without fear, discrimination and violence.

Constitution Day was observed by reading the preamble. The participants reiterated the resolve to constitute India into a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular and Democratic Republic nation.
