2-day workshop on creative writing held at GDC Drass

Kargil Nov 28:- Department of English and Urdu in collaboration with the Research and Publication Committee Government Degree College Drass organized a two-day workshop on “Creative Writing in English and Urdu” on 25 and 26 November.

The workshop was aimed to hone the writing skills of students. The workshop was participated by 23 students including students from Govt. Higher Secondary School Drass.

The first day commenced with a brief lecture on “Writing Tools in Creative Writing” by Shabir Ali, Assistant Professor English and convener Research and Publication Committee.

He talked at length about different techniques of creative writing. A brainstorming session was also held after dividing students into groups.

Later, two short animated movies were screened and students were made to write their creative write ups on the same.

The first day ended with feedback and deliberation by the concerned teachers on their write ups and later, each group was made to choose two topics of choice for the next day’s exercise. Each group was assigned one teacher as facilitator.

The second day of the workshop began with a writing session by each group on their chosen topics. After completing the first draft by the students, a discussion session on their write ups was held followed by deliberations and feedback by the concerned facilitators.

Later, each group’s stories were presented before judges and the best three were chosen for prizes. Certificates, cash prizes were distributed among participants and winners.

Principal GDC Drass lauded the efforts of the department of English and Urdu and the Research and Publication committee for successfully conducting the workshop. He urged them to conduct more such programs in the future as well.
