RAJOURI, NOVEMBER 18: Intending to create awareness regarding online banking frauds and the ways to prevent such crimes, a day-long awareness program was today organised in Rajouri.

The event was organised as part of Reserve Bank of India’s campaign, “RBI Kehta Hai: Jaankar Baniye, Satark Rahiye.” The program was organised under the overall supervision of the District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal.

At the outset of the event, the LDM JK Bank, Sanjeev Bhasin said that it has come to the notice of Reserve Bank of India that unscrupulous elements are defrauding and misleading the public by using innovative modus operandi including social media techniques, mobile phone calls, etc.

He also said that fraudsters attempt to get confidential details like user id, login / transaction password, OTP (one time password), debit / credit card details such as PIN, CVV, expiry date and other personal information for carrying out online frauds.

Addressing the event, the DDC said that with greater digital penetration and an encouraging rise in online banking, there has also been a growing concern around online banking fraud.

He cautioned the public to be aware of fraudulent messages, spurious calls, unknown links, false notifications, unauthorized QR Codes etc promising help in securing concessions/expediting response from banks and financial service providers in any manner.

While making an appeal to the public to be careful of such scams, he urged them not to give their passwords, PIN numbers or bank account numbers -legitimate companies and banks will never ask for these details by email or over the phone.

Underlining the need to be self vigilant to avoid being a victim of such frauds, he urged the public to be vigilant to safeguard oneself from online financial frauds.

Among the others present during the event were CPO, Mohammad Khurshid; LDM, Sanjeev Bhasin; Director RSETI, Raman Sharma; Functional Manager, Ashwini Sharma; other officers and general public.
