/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan today attended a function on the occasion of National Press Day 2022 here at TFC Kargil.
Joint Director Information Ladakh Imteeaz Kacho, Chief Bureau Gulistan News Ladakh GM Noori, President Press Club Kargil Hussain Khalo, members of the press club, journalists and officials of DIPR Kargil were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the CEC congratulated the media fraternity of Kargil on the occasion of National Press Day and appreciated their work.
He hailed the role of Kargil press in giving voice to the voiceless and emphasized that a free press is an important component of strong democracy adding that media and democracy work parallel to each other.
The CEC said that the advancements in social media will make the press more democratic and increase public participation. He also talked about fake news and advised the media persons to be cautious.
Khan congratulated Muhammad Musa, who has started a news portal named Ladakh Express and appreciated him.
In his address, the Joint Director Information said the media needs to play a responsible role to aware people about policies and schemes formulated by the Union Government and UT Administration. He also congratulated Muhammad Musa for starting the news portal.
Hussain Khalo while congratulating the media fraternity highlighted new challenges and issues being faced by the journalists in the Ladakh region.
Khalo appreciated the growth and development in Kargil’s media over the past three years adding that the local media has played a pivotal role in informing people about the developmental works through various centrally sponsored schemes.
Khalo requested the CEC that the reporters should be provided transport facilities for inaccessible and far-off areas while covering government functions.
GM Noori presented the vote of thanks to CEC, Joint Director Information and all other participants. Muhammad Ishaaq conducted the program proceedings.
